Additional documentation may be required if you:

Are a former Chinese citizen

Previously held a Chinese passport

Were born in the U.S. to one or more Chinese citizen parents
Requirements vary based on your personal history.
🧾 If This Is Your First China Visa After Naturalization
In addition to the standard visa requirements, you must upload:

Copy of your Naturalization Certificate or Certificate of Citizenship

Copy of the bio page of your former Chinese passport
If you cannot provide your former Chinese passport:

Upload a brief written statement explaining why it is unavailable
*Acceptance of this statement is at the discretion of the consulate
The consulate may also request:

Your physical former Chinese passport for submission
You must provide your Chinese name in Chinese characters in the questionnaire section that asks for your name in your native language.

👶 If You Were Born in the U.S. to Chinese Citizen Parent(s)
In addition to standard requirements, you must upload:

Copy of your parent’s U.S. green card(s) or U.S. visa(s) that were valid at the time of your birth
The consulate may request further documentation.
⚠️ Travel Document Requirement (Important)
In rare cases, the consulate may determine that you are not eligible for a visa and must instead apply for a Chinese travel document.

If you previously entered China using a travel document, you will likely need to apply for one again
The determination is made solely by the Chinese consulate.
