How to Apply for a New or First-Time Passport

Learn how to apply for a first-time passport and what to bring to your Passport Acceptance Agent appointment.

🧾 Required Documents

Make an appointment with a Passport Acceptance Agent and bring the following documents with you:

  • DS-11

  • Passport photo

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship

  • Copy of driver’s license

  • Swift Letter of Authorization

  • Check or money order for fees

  • International flight itinerary


📦 Sealed Envelope Requirement

Ask the Passport Acceptance Agent to:

  • Seal the documents in an envelope for HAND CARRY

Ship the sealed envelope to Swift.

Do not open the envelope.

The acceptance agent will charge a $35 fee to seal the envelope.


💡 Important Notes

  • Do not sign the DS-11 until you are in front of the Passport Acceptance Agent

  • Use the DS-11 form link included in the instruction email from Swift
  • Passport Acceptance Agent can be found at most US Post Offices and require an appointment. Appointments can be made online at USPS.
  • Processing begins after Swift submits your sealed envelope to the Passport Agency
