Special Requirements for Dual Taiwanese Citizens Applying for a China Visa

Learn the additional questionnaire and document requirements for dual Taiwanese citizens applying for a China visa.

📍 Who Does This Apply To?

This guidance applies to applicants who:

  • Hold dual citizenship with Taiwan

  • Are applying for a China visa using a non-Taiwan passport

China does not recognize Taiwan as a separate country and does not recognize dual citizenship in this context.

🧾 Questionnaire Requirements

When completing the visa questionnaire:

  • You must declare China as a former nationality

  • You must enter your Taiwanese name in Chinese characters in the section asking for your name in your native language

Information must match your passport records.

📄 Additional Documents to Upload

In addition to standard visa requirements, you must upload:

  • A copy of the bio page of your Taiwanese passport

The consulate may request additional documentation depending on your background.

⚠️ Possible Travel Document Requirement

In some cases, Taiwanese citizens may be required to apply for a Chinese travel document instead of a visa.

Important:

  • A travel document is not a visa

  • It is a separate application process

  • Visa agencies, including Swift, cannot assist with Chinese Travel Document applications

If the consulate determines you must apply for a travel document, you will need to follow their specific instructions.

💡 Important Notes

  • Requirements are determined solely by the Chinese consulate

  • Additional documentation may be requested without prior notice

  • Visa issuance is not guaranteed

Swift cannot influence consulate nationality determinations.
