What Documents Are Required for a China Student Visa (X1 or X2)?

Learn the standard document requirements for a China Student visa (X1 or X2) and when additional documents may be requested.

📍 Standard Required Documents

To apply for a China Student Visa (X1 or X2), you must upload the following into the questionnaire:

  • Passport

  • Two blank visa pages inside your passport

  • Headshot photo (passport-style)

  • Proof of residency (one of the following)

    • Valid driver’s license

    • State ID card

    • Recent utility bill

    • Recent bank statement

  • Admissions Notice

  • Information Form for Foreign Students' Short-term Visit (Form DQ) (for X2 only)
  • Confirmation Form for Study in China (Form JW201 or Form JW202) (for X1 only)
  • Confirmation Form for Elementary Stage Students Study in China (only for elementary and high school students applying for the X1 visa)
  • Visa Application Statement (provided in your instruction email)

*Please note that X1 student visa is for students studying in China for longer than 180 days and the X2 student visa is for students studying in China for up to180 days.


📄 Additional Documents (If Applicable)

You must also provide the following if they apply to your situation:

  • Copy of your most recent Chinese visa

  • Bio page of the passport that contained your most recent China visa (if it is in a different passport)

  • Copy of U.S. visa or front and back of U.S. green card (for non-U.S. passport holders)

  • Passport of second nationality (for dual citizens)
