What to Do If You Already Have a China Visa Application (COVA) in Process
Learn what to do if you already submitted a COVA application, what different COVA statuses mean, and how Swift can still assist you.
🧾 Can I Still Use Swift If I Already Submitted a COVA?
Yes, Swift can assist, but the following applies:
-
You cannot have two active applications in the COVA system
-
Swift cannot complete a new COVA application if you have already submitted an application in the COVA system
-
Swift can still assist you with your existing COVA application and complete the visa service
Do NOT complete the Swift China visa application form if you already have submitted a COVA application form already.
Your next step depends on your COVA application status.
🔎 Understanding COVA Statuses
Log in to your COVA account and review the current status of your application.
1️⃣ “Reject and to be modified”
or
“Supplementary materials to be provided”
This means:
-
The consulate requires corrections or additional documentation
-
You must review the notes provided in the system
What to do:
-
Click “Modify application form”
-
Make the requested corrections or upload the required documents
-
Resubmit the application
In most cases, you do not need to complete the entire application again. Only the requested corrections are required.
Continue to check on the status of your application by logging into your COVA account periodically.
2️⃣ “Passport to be submitted”
This means:
-
Your application has been approved by the consulate
-
The consulate now requires your physical passport
What to do:
Ship your passport to Swift along with:
-
A screenshot showing the full approval status, including the “Passport to be submitted” message, the barcode, your name, consular jurisdiction, and consular fee amount
If you have a valid China visa in an old passport, include that passport as well.
⚠️ Important Notes
-
Do not start a new COVA application if one has already been submitted
- Canceling a COVA application that has already been submitted will result in delays
- Status updates come directly from the consulate system. Swift cannot override or change COVA status messages.
-
Delays may occur if corrections are not made accurately
💡 Helpful Tips
-
Review consulate correction notes carefully before resubmitting
-
Ensure all uploads are clear and legible
-
Confirm your jurisdiction matches your residence
Swift cannot influence consulate approval decisions but can assist in guiding you through required corrections.
