What to Do If You Cannot Provide a Copy of Your Former China Visa
Learn what to enter in the China visa questionnaire if you no longer have your previous passport or a copy of your most recent China visa.
🧾 How to Complete the Former Visa Section
If you do not have a copy of your most recent China visa or the passport it was in, complete the questionnaire as follows:
-
In the Visa Number field → enter “unknown”
-
In the Date of Issue field → enter an estimated date (it does not need to be exact)
-
In the Place of Issue field → enter the correct Chinese consulate that issued the visa
The consulate listed must be accurate.
📄 Required Statement
You must also upload a written statement that:
-
Explains that you no longer have the passport that contained the visa
-
Confirms the loss or disposal of that passport
You may use the Swift statement template provided in your application checklist.
🚫 What You Should Not Do
-
Do not answer “No” if you have previously held a China visa
-
Do not provide incorrect or misleading information
Important:
Any inconsistency between your answers and the Chinese consulate’s records may result in delays.
⚠️ Important Limitation
This guidance applies only to your most recent China visa.
If you have held multiple China visas:
-
The information provided must reflect the most recently issued visa
-
You cannot substitute details from an older visa
💡 Helpful Notes
-
The Chinese consulate maintains internal visa records
-
Providing accurate information helps prevent processing delays
Swift cannot override consulate verification requirements.
